Everything Stops.

Stephanie Jackson

Last week I was at work and received a call that I wasn't ready for or expecting. My grandfather passed away and in that moment, everything stopped. I was moving in slow motion. I could barely grasp for air and I couldn't see anything through the tears. I still have moments when I say out loud, "I can't believe you're gone."

As a child, my grandparents were always these indestructible figures that would live forever. But the older I get and the older they have become, the harsh reality has started to sink in that that fantasy simply isn't going to play out the way I hoped.

I've lost both of my grandfathers at this point in my life, and I have to say, while it stings so bad, I feel incredibly blessed for all of the amazing memories I have with them. They were always there, when they could be, for the big moments in our lives. They loved us BIG and were so proud of everything my sisters and I accomplished. I am not a people pleaser by any means, but making my family proud is something that I always strive for. I plan to write an open letter to them one day soon. That's another draft post that is sitting, waiting to be finished.

Last week, everything stopped and I had to take a few days to grieve, be with family and process my feelings. I appreciate your patience with me as I ease back into the blog. This creative outlet is also my escape and helps me get through more than you guys even know.

Back on Track

I'm getting back on my Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule with today's post.

I wore this top to my grandfather's funeral with the most adorable black pants that have ruffles at the bottom. My Pop Pop was always fly, so I brought my A game to his final show :) The white version of this blouse sold out, but ASOS has it in a few other colors! Yay! I linked them all for you.

I styled it with jeans for the blog. I love how versatile it is. I've even seen it worn with a great pair of distressed bermuda shorts. How do you guys think you'd style it?

Thanks so much for stopping by the blog and for your constant support.

Ruffle Dress + Life Update

Stephanie Jackson

Happy Monday, friends! If you follow my social feeds, then you know that I have this thing with yellow lately that I can't seem to shake. I keep buying it! Someone help me!

My latest obsession is this adorable ruffle sleeve dress that I found at ASOS. I wore her one night in Florida for my recent work trip and loved it. She's not too short and the perfect color for my skin tone. I'll link everything for you guys - PLUS, if yellow isn't your color, I found the same dress in another color option too.

I thought I'd use today's post to share a little life update because we've had so much going on! I can't recall if I updated you all or not, but we finally got a contract on our house in Houston! Yay! Looking forward to not paying two mortgages very soon. We were on the market a lot longer than we anticipated, but thankfully, it all worked out and we found the perfect buyer! :) We are slowly making the new place feel like home ... the boys love it! And while it's only temporary until we figure out our next move, I'm starting to love it too! The only thing about being in a smaller space, is that when things get messy, you feel it a lot faster than in a large home. So note to self ... pick up as you go!

Today's post is short and sweet! I'll chat with you guys on Wednesday for a new blog topic! Have a great week!

What Matters Most.

Stephanie Jackson

I should start this post by saying that ... there's nothing glamorous about building a brand and owning your own business. Absolutely nothing. I know the images online and fun photoshoots make it seem so, but there are a lot of hours and non-stop working that play into making this dream become a reality. If you ask my husband, he'll say I am on my phone way too much. But I always say, every second that I'm on my phone, I'm making money ... And then he proceeds to leaves me alone LOL! But in this 24/7 business, I have found that I really have to be intentional about family time and making time for what matters the most to me.

My children have said to me before, "you're always on your phone!" and it pierces my heart because I know they don't care about what I'm doing, they just want me to be present with them. So I wanted to share 3 things that I am working on to make sure that I am there for all of the important moments and people in my life.

I didn't want to approach this post from an expert point of view because I'm just NOT there yet! So I thought sharing what I'm working on would be better, as I'm sure many of you can relate.

1. Put the phone down.

If my husband or my children are talking to me, I am trying very hard to not have any distractions. It is so easy for me to look you in the eye as if I'm listening to you, but if something else is on my mind, or if I'm in the middle of something on my phone, I don't hear you. Not a single word. So I'm personally trying to put the phone down and be 100% present.

2. Schedule time.

My children require a lot of attention when they are awake. Especially now during the summer! Even though they are at camp for a large portion of the day, when they get home, family time is so important. I've had to be very intentional about my schedule. Even if it means late nights for me, if they kids are awake, I can't work on the blog. But that also means, I keep my kids on a pretty steady schedule. Bedtime is consistent, that way there isn't much resistance when it is time to lay it on down.

3. Have a Plan

I'm not a great planner in my personal life. There is so much that I want to do and accomplish that sometimes I let daydreaming get the best of me and end up getting a delayed start on things. Ooops :) I am working on having a plan for every week and planning ahead for the constant hustle that is my life. From photoshoots, family field trips and time for my babies - I've found that when I know what's coming and when different events are in my life, things just run a whole lot smoother.

What are some things you guys do to hold it all together for you families?

Also, this look is on sale and selling fast. It's a part of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I bought it at my local mall and fell in love instantly. Everything is linked below.

Thanks for stopping by loves!
