Melanin.

Have you ever heard that saying "Black don't crack" ... This is of course in reference to African-American's skin not aging as quickly as others. I've heard this my whole life and foolishly believed it until after we returned from our cruise and I realized I hadn't cared for my skin in the sun as well as I should have. My face was dry, cracking, peeling ... it was as if I had acquired a hard layer of skin that wouldn't come off. Sisters ... Hear me ... Don't believe the hype! Take care of your skin, especially if you'll be in the sun for a long period of time.

I was so worried that I had ruined my once very clear, very smooth, wrinkle free complexion after frolicking on beach for 7 days. While I packed some skincare with us on the boat, it wasn't what I needed to repair my skin. So when I got home, I went into skincare overdrive and began Operation: Melanin.

I've heard from many of you asking what my skincare routine consists of, and after my mini-crisis, and proof that it works, I decided it's time to share it with you. My skin is not too dry and not too oily normally, so keep that in mind.

Make-Up Removers:

I should preface this by saying: If you are not taking your make-up off every night before bed, you absolutely must start! You are aging your beautiful face every single day that you go to bed without washing. I have a couple products that I love to use.

If I'm feeling really lazy, I use wipes. Keep them on your night stand if you have to! My favorites are Take the Day off by Clinique and Eye Cloths by Rodan + Fields. I've used drugstore wipes, and yes they can do the trick too, but these have worked best for me!

Clinique also makes this balm that is the beees-kneees! You literally rub it all over your face and it dissolves the makeup. I linked it for you guys to try. I had on heavy eye makeup one night and thought, "I'll use this and then get my wipes to finish it off" ... Not necessary. It got it all. #obsessed. If you have a little bit of time before bed, I recommend this one

Exfoliating:

I exfoliate my skin 2-3 times a week, depending on the product I'm using.

Reverse by Rodan + Fields saved my skin when I got back from the cruise. I had to be careful because my skin had been through a lot and this product is serious business. But within a week, I had restored my face and removed that unflattering layer of "crispy!" I have used this product for several months, so my skin is pretty used to it. Be gentle if it's your first time. It's great for sun damage.

My other exfoliating must have is City Block by Clinique. I was introduced to this product after doing my Clinique event at Macy's and it really helped recover my skin quickly as well. The clay mask feels really good, you can almost feel it squeezing your pores into shape! Is that weird? I'm a little obsessed with taking care of my skin.

Every Day Washing:

For every day washing, I do one of two things ... cool water and a towel (super basic, I know) or a gentle face wash followed by a toner. I mix it up between Redefine and Clinique

I've been really happy with my skin and how clear it's been since I started taking better care of it. Make sure you drink plenty of water and eat healthy as well, that's half the battle sometimes!

Thanks so much for stopping by the blog. Shoot me an email if you have any questions or if there's anything specific you'd like to see regarding my skincare routine!

XO
