An Open Letter To My Children
Mother's Day is just around the corner and the older my children get, the more grateful I become for the amazing opportunity and blessing to be their mom. I definitely wasn't ready and I definitely didn't plan to become a mom as young as I did (we were 21 when we found out we were pregnant with our first) but man oh man, has it been the most incredible journey of my life to date.
I'm selfish by nature. I have no problem admitting that, and even if I tried to deny it, my husband would likely give me a serious side eye and ask me why I'm lying to you all :) But something happens to you when you become a parent. My children are my world and everything that I do is in hopes that one day it inspires them to dream big, live their lives out loud and with no regrets.
Dear Jason and Gavin,
You are my rays of sunshine that make every day so much brighter. I remember the day that both of you were born so vividly and often replay the moment in my mind each time your birthday rolls around so that I never forget. It's hard to describe how my world changed when you came into it, but you have given me such focus and drive to give you the most amazing lives and childhood that I pray you look back on and smile about.
Thank you for challenging me to be the best mom I can possibly be to you. And for never ceasing to "call me out" when I'm not giving you my undivided attention, because you absolutely deserve it. Thank you for forgiving me when I mess up. I'm not the perfect mom, I certainly am not in the running for Mom of The Year, yet you love me anyway, flaws and all, and I am so so grateful for that.
You are both so incredibly smart. And I'm not just saying that because I am your mom. You learn so quickly and are so resilient and humble. I can already tell that you'll be amazing young men one day.
I pray you never lose your excitement for the "little things" in life ... I look forward to the day when we can look back and laugh at how excited you both get about things like toys from the $1 store, Happy Meals and new socks. :)
I will always love you, no matter what. And I will always be here for you and I will always support your dreams. It's my hope that you always follow your heart, trust in the Lord and live your life fearlessly and full of hope.
I love you both so much!
